The familiar face on the screen is the point of the story: believers say the appearance is a mask. The theory converts distrust of human elites into a claim that the people exercising power are not human at all.
01 / A political metaphor becomes a literal claim
The reptilian narrative associated with David Icke describes concealed nonhuman power operating through apparently human rulers. Scholarship on conspiracy culture examines this as part of a wider cabal story: complicated institutions acquire a single hidden author. The literal claim matters. Saying a politician behaves coldly is an opinion about conduct; saying the politician changes species alleges an extraordinary physical event.
02 / The witness problem
Accounts circulated within this belief system describe unusual appearances or transformations. Their significance depends on the original account, conditions of observation, and corroboration. Then ask what observation would positively distinguish a transformation from those ordinary possibilities. Investigating abuses by identifiable people remains possible without assigning those people a fictional species.
